TRENDING WITH MSTRE - MIAMI ART BASEL 2021 GUIDE
Known for her larger-than-life sculptures and art pieces combining papier-mâché, paint, fiber collage and tiny vintage toys from all over the world, Rachel K’s art is a nod to our childhood fantasies and pop culture icons.
But there is no “toying around” for the Winner of the Best International Solo Artist at the World Art Dubai Awards 2017. Her latest pièce de résistance Wings of Joy is a whopping 100 x 45” sculpture that will have its debut reveal exclusively for this event. If this won’t have Instagrammers flocking for a photo op, Rachel K’s sculptures on showcase - think Marge Simpson, Mickey Mouse and Super Mario Flower- will make art collectors bid for a joyful addition to their homes.

COALESCE is the new project of contemporary artist, Elidea in collaboration with Italian-French, fashion photographer Raoul Beltrame. AfriKin Art Fair: The Fire Next Time || Resistance. Resilience. Creation.
In memory of James Baldwin
A Contemporary Afican Art Fair on the Occasion of the 2021 Art Basel/Miami Art Week.
“We have not stopped trembling yet, but if we had not loved each other none of us would have survived ~ James Baldwin”
The 2021 edition of AfriKin Art Fair explores the literary work of James Baldwin “The Fire Next Time” (1963). AfriKin, curator of African arts and cultures presents works from artists highlighting African/Diasporic perspectives in contemporary art in an exhibition of renderings transmitting liberation and strength as it evaluates intersectionality through contemporary art. AfriKin Art Fair, is a consideration of the necessity and power of art for musing on the future, with the words of James Baldwin coming to mind … “God gave Noah the rainbow sign … No more water, the fire next time”.
AfriKin Art Fair symbolizes the realized potential of ethnic communities in applying themselves to a singular purpose -- care for each other. This annual African art fair on the occasion of Art Basel /Miami Art Week, as a signature programming event for AfriKin, presents internationally acclaimed, literary and visual artists from across the African continent, the Caribbean, Europe and the Americas showcasing their cultural perspectives on African heritage.
AfriKin presents opportunities for mutual empowerment to motivate patrons to participate in the growth and circulation of community wealth. This is achieved through cultural exchange, educational discourse, and focused content designed to strengthen and inform individuals. This cultural cross-pollination creates an experience that is accessible, drawing attention (in many cases, for the first time) to works that heretofore had been lost, hidden or removed.
The fair is an art exploration of the “Fire Next Time” opening at 8 pm on December 1st with private VIP Launch; It runs open to the public from December 2nd through the 5th to see exhibition of works; traditional African dance and drum performances; Jazz music jam sessions; Speakeasy Poetry Lounge; artists VIP meet and greet; curated cocktail bar, palate-pleasing sensory experience of culinary art, lively panel discussion; art film screenings.
Distinguished and welcoming evenings set the tone for the fusing of creative elements within Miami’s modernist architectural landscape -- James Baldwin's appreciation of being human provides a framework for experiencing the depth of art and Jazz and the process of re-centering ourselves in a shared kinship.
AfriKin Art Fair Schedule:
